Volunteering

Whatever your talents, are you interested in helping out at church?

To enable our churches to function week in week out we rely on the support of an army of volunteers. There are many ways you could lend a hand in the various aspects of church life. We are always delighted to hear from you. Your help can make a big difference.

Joining one of our two Parochial Church Councils

(PCCs) which are the governing bodies of our two parishes. Please let us know if you would like to join us and contribute in some way.

Cleaning and polishing

As for any building a church needs cleaning, polishing and other simple routine task to keep it tidy. Each of the five churches have their own rotas and procedures, so, if you’re keen on keeping the brass and silverware looking like new, love the joy of polishing furniture, or simply enjoy hoovering this would be right up your street!

Fabric and maintenance

If you would like to help with the maintenance and fabric of our buildings please contact us. Several of our churches have exciting projects underway for which we would always appreciate support. Why not think about giving a hand to the churchwardens of the parishes with the benefit of any expertise you may have to offer.

Flowers

Whether you are happy making up simple and natural arrangements of seasonal flowers or prefer a slightly more formal approach please do get in touch. Fresh flowers in church make a huge difference to the look and feel of these magnificent buildings. We are moving towards a more sustainable approach to flower arranging within our churches.

Church opening

Some of our churches are open each day but closed overnight and this is managed by way of a church opening rota. If you like regular timekeeping and being in charge of the church key, this might be for you! Please see individual churches for opening times.

Churchyard maintenance

This requires a team of volunteers. Some of our churches have working parties to blitz the churchyards on a regular or seasonal basis. St Mary's has a well supported mowing rota where volunteers take turns through the season to mow the churchyard. There are always other ways to help. If you would like to know more please contact us.
