Compline at Flintham

St. Augustine’s. Flintham are hosting the ladies choir Chiara who will be singing Compline at 6 pm on Saturday 15th December. The music and service is very much in the manner of that heard in monasteries. All are welcome.


Lest We Forget – 100 Years of Remembrance

 

East Bridgford is holding a series of events on Armistice Day, Sunday 11th November 2018,
to which all are invited. The programme is:

  • Service of Remembrance at 11:00am at St. Peter’s Church
  • Exhibition of WW1 memorabilia from 2:00pm at St. Peter;s Church
  • Candlelit procession starting at 6:30pm from two village locations
  • Lighting the beacon at 7:00pm outside St. Peter’s Church followed by
  • Candlelit festival of readings, prayer, music and singing in church.

Harvest Festival services will be held in all churches in the Fosse Group during September and October. These include:

Screveton Lammas Lunch

A very successful Lammas Lunch was held on 5th August, hosted by Lorrie McGowan and Ed Hines. A total of £1,465 was raised  to continue the upkeep of St Wilfrid’s Church. The Churchwardens would like to thank all those who attended from both sides of the Fosse and surrounding villages.

The Revd David Wakefield

 

David Wakefield died peacefully on 19th July 2018, aged 75.

David served as Priest in Charge at Car Colston (St. Mary) with Screveton (St. Wilfrid) and at Flintham (St. Augustine of Canterbury) from 1999-2008, from where he retired to live in Filey, North Yorkshire. David also supported the parishes of East Bridgford and Kneeton during the interregnum following the retirement of Canon Alan Haydock. David leaves a widow Jenny and grown up children

A memorial service is to be held at St. Wilfrid’s, Screveton on 29th September at 4.00pm, to which all who knew David are welcome.

Flintham Peace Day

Sunday 22 July 2018
The Flintham Museum Committee invites you to our interpretation of
Flintham’s Peace Day 

11.00 am        Flintham Church – short Sunday service

11.30 am        Commemoration of Flintham residents who fought in the Great War (1914-1918) and                           those who kept Flintham alive waiting for the men to return.
                       A Peace banner will be displayed
                       The Flintham Community Choir will sing two songs.

11.45am         Bring your own picnic and drinks to the courtyard at Flintham Hall

                       Picnic tables, rugs, chairs are advisable

The original Peace Day was held 19 July 1919 when a long church service was held followed by a Public Tea and games in the grounds of Flintham Hall
