Biggest Thank You to the NHS

The Archbishop of Canterbury has given his support to the campaign for the ‘biggest thank you’ to mark the 72nd birthday of the NHS on 5th July as we step outside our doors at 5pm to clap.
We are also encouraged to hold a minute’s silence on 4th July along with lighting a candle to remember those who have lost their lives to coronavirus

Welcome Back

From Monday 6th July St Peters church in East Bridgford will be open for limited times for private prayer.
Mondays 10-12am
Thursdays 4-8pm
There will, of course, be measures in place for everyone’s safety so please take care to read the notices as you enter and comply with the safety requirements as the church will not be stewarded. We are hoping to have some resources available for you inside the church to use and take away with you.
May your time returning to this sacred space be a time of peace and blessing in stormy times.

Feast Sunday Act of Remembrance and War Memorial Re-dedication

As this year marks the centenary of the original dedication of the War Memorial, an Act of Remembrance and re-dedication of the War Memorial will take place at 6:30pm on Sunday 28th June.  (see full news item)
Regrettably, and in line with current restrictions, only six people will be able to be present in the churchyard – these will be representatives of the church, Parish Council, British Legion and Scouts. No arrangements to allow larger numbers are possible. Members of the public who choose to watch will have to do so at their own risk from surrounding roads whilst observing social distancing requirements.

VE Day Service and the Big Picnic for Hope

Southwell Minster is inviting everyone to join in with their celebrations on Friday to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

They will start with a short service broadcast online at 11.00am, with contributions from the Lord-Lieutenant and uniformed groups, memories of VE Day from a longstanding resident of Southwell, a reflection from Bishop Paul, and even the (recorded) sound of the Minster bells.

Once the service has finished, people are encouraged to grab their picnic basket for the Big Picnic for Hope, in aid of the Trussell Trust. This event is a joint initiative by cathedrals around the country to celebrate the heroes of the new ‘home front’: NHS, carers, delivery personnel, workers across food stores and public transport, and the remarkable collective effort of the nation to stay at home and play our own part in helping to see this through.

Worship at Home

While church services are suspended during the current coronovirus pandemic, we are providing a range of resources to enable you to worship at home. Some of these resources will be printed general and vent-specific services (e.g. Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday) to undertake when it is convenient to you, video services for you to play and join in at home and, when appropriate, accompanying readings, prayers and hymns. These resources will be further developed over time.

All these ‘Worship at Home’ resources will be available from this website and our Facebook Page.

Fosse Group Facebook Page

We have launched a Facebook Page for the Fosse Group which will host news, items from the Ministry team, posts from worshippers and followers, and act as a visual showcase for our group of parishes. Please visit regularly for updates.
Content from the Ministry team will also be available here on the Fosse Group website.

Day of Prayer and Action

Mothering Sunday 22nd March 2020

The Archbishops have called, along with fellow church leaders, for a day of prayer and action this coming Sunday. Mothering Sunday has always been both a day of celebration for many and a sensitive and emotional day for some. Wherever you are this Sunday please do join in this day of prayer and action and remember especially those who are sick or anxious, and all involved in our Health Service.

How you can join in
We are calling on everyone to place a lighted candle in their window at 7.00 p.m. as a sign of solidarity and hope in the light of Christ that can never be extinguished.
